Anheuser-Busch sells farm land near FoCo brewery for $13.6M

WELD COUNTY — Anheuser-Busch Inc. recently completed a deal to offload thousands of acres of agricultural land near the beverage giant’s Fort Collins brewery to an investment group for more than $13.6 million.

The transaction involved portions of 15 different parcels in Weld County, which total more than 6,000 acres. All of the parcels are zoned for agricultural uses and most are without any buildings, county documents show.

The parcels, all located in Weld County, are east of the Fort Collins brewery and U.S. Interstate 25 near Cobb Lake and intersection of Weld County Road 52 and Colorado Boulevard.

Platte River must prepare for the retirement of 431 megawatts (MW) of dispatchable, coal-fired generation by the end of the decade and address more frequent extreme weather events that can bring dark calms (periods when there is no sun or wind).

Weld County documents list the buyer of the property as SPABS LLC. That company is registered to a Glendale address associated with commercial real estate investment firm Westside Investment Partners Inc.

It is unclear what the future holds for this land. Representatives for Anheuser-Busch and Westside Investment Partners could not be reached for comment.

Anheuser-Busch operates what the company calls “Nutri-Turf farms” at the Fort Collins facility as well as at the brewery in Jacksonville, Fla. These farms use nutrient-rich water, a bi-product of the brewing process, to grow crops.
