Boulder staffers and councilmembers named in municipalization-related ethics complaint
BOULDER — An active critic of city policies has filed an ethics complaint naming top Boulder staffers and three City Council members, citing improper communication between them and a pro-municipalization group.
Former city council candidate Mark Gelband filed the complaint, the Daily Camera reports. It stems from a June 18 appearance by two staffers — Jonathan Koehn and Brett KenCairn — at a fundraiser for the group Empower Our Future. That event, which required an admission fee, was labeled as a celebration of the success the municipalization effort has had so far.
According to Gelband, Koehn and KenCairn speaking at the event is a conflict of interest because Empower Our Future “is a known pro-muni lobbying group.” Gelband said the appearance of Councilman Sam Weaver and the use of photos and quotes from Mayor Suzanne Jones and Councilman Matt Appelbaum is also improper.
