Boulder County moves forward with GMO phaseout on county land

Boulder County will proceed with a phase-out of genetically modified crops on county-owned farmland after a 2-1 vote Thursday by the Boulder County commissioners.

The Boulder Daily Camera reports that the county will phase out GMO corn by the end of 2019, with GMO sugar beets phased out by the end of 2021. The commissioners approved a draft phaseout plan in November 2016.

Boulder County’s Parks Open Space Department also will be required to produce an annual report on progress toward phaseout of GMOs.
