Until recently, paper insurance enrollment forms were the norm. Now, benefit administration platforms abound, and are offered by consultants, payroll companies, HRIS systems, and others. How can you select the right platform to fit your needs?

Consider four warning signs before implementation:

1. “Free” – Shared investment creates ownership. Organizations offering “free” platforms use lesser-quality solutions or have reduced capabilities in other key areas.

2. Cumbersome, computer interfaces – Preferred platforms have mobile functionality. Nearly all employees have smartphones, but only some use computers.

3. Telephonic support – Hurdles exist and support matters. Your consultant should provide specialized, on-staff benefits technology support.

4. Multiple-entry, pooled transmissions – Single entry and live feeds to payroll system, HRIS platforms, and insurers, reduces workloads.

Quality platforms improve employee satisfaction and create efficiencies companywide. The wrong choice, however, causes more headaches than it solves. Please join HUB International for a Benefits Technology seminar in Loveland later this summer.
