Aspen Skiing Co. gets approval to add lift, skiable acreage at Snowmass

Aspen Skiing Co. has gained approval from the U.S. Forest Service to add a new chairlift and about 63 gladed acres of ski terrain at Snowmass Ski Area.

The Aspen Times reports that the company will thin trees in the new area to create the new skiable acreage. A company official told the paper that because the ski area can’t expand its boundaries it is looking for ways to add skiable acreage within its boundaries.

The paper reports that the tree-thinning will occur over the next three to five years. Work on the new high-speed chairlift will begin this summer.
