The Colorado seasonal unemployment rate was down to a record low of 2.6 percent in January. The cause for this was better-than-expected employment gains and fewer persons looking for work.
According to Vickie L. Armstrong, director of the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment, the current rate is below December’s rate of 2.8 percent and last year’s rate of 2.8 percent.
Also, Labor Force data has confirmed that the annual jobless rate fell to 2.9 percent in 1999, down from 3.8 percent the previous year and the lowest in a series going back to 1978.
Total resident employment expanded by about 43,000 while unemployment slipped about 20,000. As a result, overall labor force growth in the state was only up 23,000.
