Western Mobile grant available for school project

BOULDER — Construction money is available for school projects, thanks to a $10,000 grant from Western Mobile Inc.

The money will go to an elementary school in the Boulder Valley or St. Vrain school district as part of Western Mobile’s Adopt-a-School program.

Teachers and principals are encouraged to involve students in the application process and ask them how they would use the $10,000 grant to enhance their schools. Educators must submit applications by Jan. 13.

In preparation for Republic Services becoming the primary provider of residential recycling, yard trimmings, and trash, residents should now select the best cart size and service schedule for their household needs.

A judging panel of local media, business and education leaders, and Western Mobile executives, will select the winning project in February.

Applications must meet these criteria:

* A large portion of the project must include one or more of Western Mobile’s construction products, which are concrete, asphalt and aggregate (sand and gravel).

* Each application must be accompanied by at least one student essay or poster describing why he or she believes the school is in need of the desired project.

* Projects that can be fully or mostly completed with a grant of up to $10,000 in materials and/or service will receive higher priority by the judging panel.

*Project construction must begin in March (weather permitting) and be completed by the end of May, unless approved in advance by Western Mobile.
