JBS USA’s revenue up slightly in first quarter

GREELEY – Meat processor JBS USA in Greeley generated first-quarter revenue of $7.4 million from its three business units that process beef, pork and chicken, according to an earnings statement released late Wednesday by its parent company, JBS SA.

Revenue generated in JBS USA’s beef unit during the quarter that ended March 31 was $4.5 million, a 4.8 per cent increase compared with $4.3 million for the same period a year ago. Revenue generated from its chicken unit was $2 million, down 0.9 percent compared with the same period a year ago. Pork operations generated $896,000 for the quarter, a 6.5 percent increase from the same period a year ago.

Brazil-based JBS SA, the world’s largest meat producer, reported a 69 percent decline in first-quarter profit after currency-hedging costs partly erased gains from its poultry businesses, the company said in a statement. Its net income dropped to 70 million reais, or $32 million, from 227.9 million reais, or $103.1 million.
