Terracon Foundation awards $50K endowment to CSU
FORT COLLINS — Colorado State University has received a $50,000 endowment from the Terracon Foundation to establish a geotechnical engineering scholarship within the university’s Walter Scott, Jr. College of Engineering.
Based in Olathe, Kansas, the foundation is the philanthropic arm of Terracon Consultants Inc.
Annual distributions from the endowment will provide financial assistance to undergraduate and graduate students pursuing degrees in engineering disciplines with a priority on areas aligned with Terracon’s areas of expertise such as geotechnical,” Lindsay Gardner, senior marketing specialist in Terracon’s Fort Collins office, said in a prepared statement. “The scholarship is intended to reduce financial barriers, attract high-performing students to geotechnical fields, and promote student success through degree completion.”
Students and faculty at CSU’s Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering develop solutions to address modern global challenges in environmental, infrastructure and water systems. The department offers two accredited bachelor of science degrees in civil and environmental engineering and recently added a construction engineering degree, one of the few in the nation. The department offers master’s and doctoral-level degrees in civil and environmental engineering as well as several graduate certificates.
The foundation has granted nearly $6 million to community organizations and universities as well as providing scholarships for dependents of employees and disaster-relief efforts.
“Terracon has hired and mentored CSU geotechnical engineers for years, and this endowment extends that commitment to students just getting started,” said Joseph Scalia IV, an associate professor of civil and environmental engineering at CSU. “On behalf of our faculty and students, we thank the Terracon Foundation for an investment that will pay forward for decades.”
Terracon is an employee-owned, multidiscipline consulting firm comprised of more than 8,000 people focused on solving engineering and technical challenges from more than 200 locations nationwide.
