Weld Trust awards $20.5M in grants in 18 months

GREELEY — The Weld Trust, a philanthropic organization that emerged from the sale of North Colorado Medical Center and related assets in 2019, has awarded grants totaling more than $20.5 million over the past 18 months, the organization reports.

Grants supported area nonprofit organizations, schools and governmental entities and ranged from aiding with basic needs such as food and housing to student success in school and upskilling or reskilling individuals to earn a living wage.

Since its organization’s founding, The Weld Trust has awarded more than $100 million in grants for the Weld County community.

“Across Weld County, we have seen the community need for essential resources continue to grow over the past several years,” The Weld Trust CEO, Jeff Carlson, said in a written statement. “The need to come together as a community to support our neighbors is greater than ever.”

Recent health-related grants awarded by The Weld Trust focus on improving overall quality of life for Weld County residents by increasing access to nutritious food, stable housing, behavioral health resources and preventative wellness programs.

“By supporting organizations that address challenges early, we can help create healthier outcomes for the Weld County community,” Carlson said.

The Weld Trust’s recent education-related funding aims to improve literacy, provide tutoring and expand career pathways, as well as provide vocational and technical training.

“It is so important to ensure students are successful in school to ultimately better equip them in life,” Carlson said. “Supporting programs that help students thrive in school helps keep them engaged and learning at their grade level, improve graduation rates, and increase long-term success in the workforce.”

In addition to awarding grants, The Weld Trust also aims to strengthen nonprofit organizations through strategic capacity building services. In 2025, the organization launched a series of skill-building workshops to help improve operational effectiveness and sustainability of area nonprofits.

One of the course offerings was a nine-month long Executive Leadership Lab for executive directors and senior leaders. Each month, participants explored various topics such as leading with purpose, tackling real-time challenges and sharpening communication skills. The first cohort of the Executive Leadership Lab had 27 graduates.

The next course offering will be the Emerging Leaders Lab, a nine-month leadership accelerator designed for rising leaders in nonprofit organizations. The deadline for applying is July 3.
