CSU environmental economist elected to National Academy of Sciences
FORT COLLINS — Colorado State University economics professor Ed Barbier was elected last month to the National Academy of Sciences.
Barbier, “widely regarded as a leading figure in the field of environmental economics, bridging economics, natural sciences and environmental policy,” is the 13th past or present CSU professor to join the body, according to a CSU news release.
“Peers elect members to the Academy in recognition of distinguished and continuing achievements in original research. Membership is a mark of international excellence in science and is considered one of the highest honors a scientist can receive,” the release said.
“It can be challenging to work across disciplines, especially in a field like economics that can often be rigid,” Barbier said in the release. “But I believe some of the most exciting challenges and complex environmental problems require exactly that approach. Over the years, I’ve been fortunate to collaborate across disciplines and receive support from the members of the National Academy of Sciences.”
