Rehabbed Fort Collins hotel to donate all furniture, fixtures

FORT COLLINS — The Best Western University Inn in Fort Collins, soon to be renovated and renamed The Buxton Hotel, will donate all of its furnishings and fixtures to benefit the Habitat for Humanity ReStores in Fort Collins and Loveland.

The 70-room Best Western, which opened in 1962, will make available entertainment centers, refrigerators, microwaves, televisions, ironing boards, desks, desk lamps and other elements from each of those rooms.

The contents of 16 rooms were donated on Dec. 8. “This won’t be our only donation. We have plans to donate every piece of guest room furniture and in-room equipment from all 70 rooms. This phased process will continue as Hillside Construction moves through the building, ensuring that all usable items are diverted from waste and put directly into the hands of community members,” Tribe Development Co., the company leading the project, said in a press statement. 

“As we breathe new life into this historic property, it’s important to us that the items that have served guests for decades continue serving our community,” Ashley Stiles, CEO and founder of Tribe Development, said in a written statement. 

The hotel will remain open throughout its phased redevelopment, the company said. In addition to renovated rooms, plans include a “reimagined lobby, an all-season pool with a retractable roof, and a new neighborhood gathering space, The Caldwell Bar.” When the hotel reopens as the Buxton, it will join the BW Signature Collection, a portfolio of independent hotels. The hotel is at 914 S. College Ave., directly across from Colorado State University.
