Greeley’s Aims to offer 3D-construction course in October

GREELEY — Aims Community College is set to offer a three-dimensional concrete-printing course Oct. 17-19.

Students in the class will learn how to operate a robot that can be used to create 3D-printed homes, buildings and infrastructure, Aims said in a press statement. The class is expected to include lectures and demonstrations as students learn to operate and troubleshoot work with the construction robot. Students also can practice sketching, robotic manipulation and code generation.

The class will be held in a Iab setting similar to a construction site; students will wear hard hats, safety glasses and vests and should expect to get dirty, the press release said. Students must first take an online introduction course as a prerequisite to the in-person class.

The in-person 3D concrete printing class is the second one offered in collaboration with Alquist LLC, a startup company that moved to Greeley from Iowa in 2023. Alquist received $4 million in incentives from the city and the state at the time.

The combined prerequisite class and three-day lab is $1,350 to students, based on sign-up information on the Aims website. The three-day lab by itself is $1,100 and the prerequisite course by itself is $250. The prerequisite course is self-paced, and classes are held monthly, starting on the first Monday of the month.
