Former Longmont Leader editor takes post at CSU

FORT COLLINS — Macie May, who had served for four years as editor and reporter at the online Longmont Leader news service, has been named marketing and communications specialist for the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Colorado State University.

May established the Longmont Leader in 2020 and worked there until it closed in May 2024. Two months later, it was purchased and revived by Up Venture, based in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

“I was writing for them as something to do while I was searching for a new job,” May said, adding that she took the position at CSU on Dec. 2.

“I was formerly married to a man who was an engineer, so I have experience working with people in the sciences,” May said. “Mechanical engineering is a new field for me, but it’s very exciting to learn about what they’re doing at CSU every day.”

May earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Oklahoma and a master’s in marketing and communications from the University of Denver. She has served as chief operating officer at Longmont Public Media and as a consultant for El Comite de Longmont Inc.
