Lightning achieves Buy America certification

LOVELAND — Lightning eMotors Inc. (NYSE: ZEV), has received the Buy America certification for its Class 3 all-electric passenger van, which makes the vehicle eligible for federal programs such as the Federal Aviation Administration’s zero emission airport shuttle program.

“We believe it is important that our high-quality electric vehicles support American jobs. We  purposely look for U.S.-based component and subcomponent manufacturers and suppliers and are thrilled to be Buy American Act certified in formal recognition of our largely American  supply chain,” Lightning eMotors vice president of procurement, Chelsea Ramm, said in a written statement. “Additionally, our larger, Class 4 Lightning ZEV4 passenger models have also passed our internal Buy America  audit, and we look forward to earning certification through independent verification on this model as well,” she said.

Buy America certification requires that vehicles contain more than 70%, as determined by cost, of its parts to be manufactured in the United States. In the case of the Class 3 vehicle, Lightning includes more than 80% of its components from U.S. sources.
