Boulder County to eye CEMEX mining application Wednesday

LYONS – An application by CEMEX to continue mining for 15 years at the Dowe Flats Quarry east of Lyons for 15 years will be considered by the Boulder County Board of County Commissioners during a meeting at 2 p.m. Wednesday. Earlier this month, the Boulder County Planning Commission had recommended that commissioners deny the application. According to the Longmont Times-Call, the building-materials company has agreed to close its cement plant south of Colorado Highway  66 once the mining operation was concluded in 2037.
