Western Colorado basin may be key to gas exports

GRAND JUNCTION — The Piceance Basin in Colorado and the Uinta Basin in Utah have potential to be the sources for liquefied natural gas to export to Asia.

A report cited in the Grand Junction Sentinel this week said the basins are well positioned for the export business because of the proximity of pipelines serving the west coast. The report also said if the Jordan Cove LNG facility in Oregon is built, it would open exports to Asia because of its location closer to foreign markets than other terminals.

The report resulted from a joint effort of Utah’s governor and former Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper.
