Louisville and Niwot nonprofits build classroom from containers

LOUISVILLE and NIWOT — Homes of Living Hope, a nonprofit construction company, has completed a two-story classroom built from shipping containers that will ship to Niwot-based Mwebaza Foundation’s school for children in Uganda.

Niwot High School students in clubs and extracurricular programs have spent the last several months helping transform the containers into classrooms. The students helped frame walls, install drywall, paint, install flooring and wire the building for electricity with a solar array.

The Mwebaza Foundation will host an open house of the classroom building from 9 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. on Thursday, Nov, 29, at Niwot High School, 8989 E. Niwot Road. From 4:30 to 5:15 p.m., the student council will host a Completion Ceremony for participants, their families and staff.

Homes of Living Hope is a Louisville-based nonprofit founded in 2006 that provides the framework for converting used shipping containers into facilities such as clinics, schools and housing internationally. Homes of Living Hope worked with Life in Abundance International, an African faith-based community development organization, on site selection and shipping regulations.
