As Mental Health Awareness Month unfolds in Colorado, it serves as a reminder of the collective responsibility to prioritize mental well-being.

The particular recalled item is the 6.8-ounce prepackaged chicken salad sandwich sold in the deli section of King Soopers. The sell-by dates for the impacted item were Sept. 20 through Sept. 28.

King Soopers has removed the item from shelves and is contacting those who may have purchased impacted items through an alert notification system.

Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that can cause serious and possibly fatal infections in young children, the elderly or those with weakened immune symptoms. Healthy individuals can get high fever, severe headaches, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. A Listeria infection can cause miscarriages in pregnant women.

King Soopers was notified on Sept. 21 by the manufacturer, Journey Cuisine, that the item might be contaminated. Journey Cuisine has since ceased production and is investigating.

Those who have purchased potentially impacted sandwiches should not consume them and should return them to the store for a refund or replacement.
