Fire that takes Windsor mill forces would-be developers to re-evaluate

WINDSOR — Future development is now uncertain following a fire that destroyed the historic mill in Windsor early Sunday morning.

The site was supposed to be redeveloped: It was purchased by Blue Ocean Enterprises last year.

Now, the 118-year-old mill is rubble, and Blue Ocean is considering its options for the $10 million project, reports The Coloradoan.

Platte River must prepare for the retirement of 431 megawatts (MW) of dispatchable, coal-fired generation by the end of the decade and address more frequent extreme weather events that can bring dark calms (periods when there is no sun or wind).

Before the fire, the historic landmark was in the process of having spaces leased, including tenants like a brewpub and tavern.

Both the developers and Windsor Downtown Development Authority have said they are getting their bearings.
