Estes Park OKs electric rate hikes

Estes Park’s town board has approved a series of increases in electricity rates for businesses and residences, the first in about five years. The increase will be spread over the next four years, going up 6.25 percent this year, 5.5 percent in 2017 and 2018, and 5 percent in 2019.

According to the Estes Park Trail-Gazette, town trustees said the rate adjustments are needed to cover annual operating and maintenance costs, capital improvement to maintain the system, existing annual debt service, taxes and transfers.
