Colorado coal mine cutting 80 of 300 workers

The coal mining industry on Colorado’s Western Slope keeps taking hits as demand for the resource drops amid new government regulations and increasing market share for energy from solar and natural gas.

The Denver Post reports that 80 out of 300 coal miners at the West Elk Mine in Somerset — the state’s largest producing mine — are losing their jobs.
