Longmont city council seeks more information on construction-defect laws

The Longmont City Council is moving ahead with an exploration of reforming construction-defect laws within the city limits.

The Times-Call reports that the council voted 5-2 on Tuesday to pass a motion requesting that city staff return to a future meeting with a list of options on the type of reforms the city might be able to enact. The amended motion, proposed by councilwoman Bonnie Finley, had originally sought for staff to draft an ordinance on such reforms before other council members asserted that they needed more information.

Construction-defects law reform has been a hot-button issue in Colorado in recent years, as municipalities weigh whether to give developers and builders more protection from lawsuits, specifically from condominium home-owner associations.
