Banner’s new Fort Collins hospital sees leadership shakeup
FORT COLLINS — Just a month after it opened, Banner Fort Collins Medical Center has new leadership.
Marilyn Fain has become the hospital’s new chief operating officer, replacing John D’Angelo, who had been appointed to the post in March 2014. Roberta Bean has taken over as associate chief nursing officer, replacing Pat Samples.
Rick Sutton remains CEO in charge of Banner Health’s facilities in Fort Collins, Greeley and Loveland.

Banner spokesman Paul Matthews would not reveal the reasons for the departures of D’Angelo and Samples other than to say that no illegal or unethical acts were involved.
Fain has been with Banner Health since 2010, serving first as nursing director for the emergency department at North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley and, most recently, as the Northern Colorado nursing director for emergency services and trauma. She previously had been director of emergency services at the Medical Center of Aurora Centennial Medical Plaza for 2 1/2 years. She has an associate’s degree in business administration, a bachelor’s in nursing and a master’s in nursing administration.
Bean most recently served as Banner’s Northern Colorado nursing director for clinical care Operations, and previously held a number of leadership positions at NCMC including manager, senior house manager, nursing director and service line director. She also was interim chief nursing officer for East Morgan County Hospital in Brush. Bean has bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing, is part of the adjunct nursing faculty at the University of Phoenix and is a preparedness/response lead for the American Red Cross in Weld County.
D’Angelo had worked at several Banner Health facilities before coming to Fort Collins. He was associate administrator at North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley for four years, served for six months as temporary chief executive at Platte County Memorial Hospital in Wheatland, Wyo., then was CEO at Banner Churchill Community Hospital in Fallon, Nev.
Samples had been employed at NCMC for 23 years before becoming interim chief nursing officer at its Torrington, Wyo., facility, then returning to Northern Colorado.
