Boulder-based online retailer The Cotery raises $766,000
BOULDER – Startup online clothing retailer Cotery Inc. has raised more than $766,000 in new funding, company officials disclosed in a regulatory filing this week.
Co-founder and chief executive Charlotte Genevier declined to say specifically what the new funding would be used for, but said the 20-month-old company has been growing.
The Cotery provides a platform where designers can create clothing designs and pre-sell them online. Once a minimum number of units is sold, The Cotery manufactures the items and fulfills the orders, taking a cut of the sales. Designers own their designs and get to include their own branding on the clothing.

“There’s no upfront cost and no inventory risk (for designers),” Genevier said. “So we’re lowering their barrier to entry.”
Genevier co-founded The Cotery in 2013 with fashion industry veteran Tricia Hoke and Jed Seigle, the founder of Treehouse Brand Stores, which was acquired by ThinkGeek last year. Genevier, a veteran of the tech industry, founded SocialEngine, which was acquired by Boulder digital marketing agency Room214 at the end of 2013.
The Cotery has eight employees, with all but one based in Boulder.
