MDA moving to larger space to handle growth

LONGMONT — MDA Information Systems LLC is moving its operations in Longmont to a larger space to accommodate plans to add up to 23 employees during the next two years.

It will move from 1860 Industrial Circle where it houses 28 employees, to a 10,754-square-foot space in the Xilinx Building at 1951 South Fordham St. during September or October, according to MDA spokeswoman Joan Becker.

MDA, headquartered in Gaithersburg, Md., is a subsidiary of MacDonald Dettwiler and Associates LTD. It provides remote sensing and GIS technologies used in forestry, land use, environmental analysis, military applications, mineral exploration and agriculture.

Becker said MDA will be hiring several software and systems engineers in the near term for its office in Longmont, which is led by Jim Friedel, senior director of ISR Systems.

Longmont-based DigitalGlobe Inc. (NYSE: DGI) is a major client of MDA in Longmont. MDA’s chief executive, Herb Satterlee, who maintains an office in Gaithersburg, was president and CEO of Digital Globe from 1998 to 2006. MDA, develops software that helps transmit feeds to DigitalGlobe’s satellites.

MDA received incentives from the city of Longmont and the state of Colorado.
