Regional craft brewers bring home the medals
The World Beer Cup is hosted every other year, and this year included nearly 5,000 beers from more than 1,400 breweries around the world. Beers were judged in 94 categories, and brewers from Boulder and Larimer counties won nine medals in all.
Verboten took silver in the Oatmeal Stout category with its Pure Imagination. That medal went along with the bronze won by the brewery’s Bourbon Barrel Aged Mountain Man in the Wood- and Barrel-Aged Strong Beer category.
Other area winners included:
Boulder-based Boulder Beer Co., gold in the Chocolate Beer category for Shake Chocolate Porter.
Boulder-based Twisted Pine Brewing Co., gold in the Coffee Beer category for Big Shot Espresso Stout.
Fort Collins-based Odell Brewing Co., gold in the American-Style Amber/Red Ale category for Runoff.
Longmont-based Left Hand Brewing Co., gold in the Ordinary or Special Bitter category for Sawtooth Ale.
Fort Collins-based Funkwerks, silver in the Belgian Style Pale Strong Ale category for Deceit.
BJ’s Restaurant and Brewery in Boulder and Huntington Beach, Calif., gold and bronze in the Indigenous Beer category for Wild and Crazy Rye and Got Beer, respectively.
