Hospital will complete move by October

BOULDER -Boulder Community Hospital expects to have all of its acute-care services moved and ready for business on Oct. 1 at its Foothills campus at 4747 Arapahoe Ave., according to David Gehant, the hospital’s chief executive.

New construction at the Foothills campus in east Boulder is scheduled to wrap up July 31; the full hospital move is scheduled to be wrapped up by Oct. 1, Gehant said. Between Aug. 1 and Oct. 1, workers will be testing systems at the Foothills campus, positioning equipment and furniture, and cleaning, he said. Part of the Foothills campus already is open and operating.

Boulder Community Hospital’s move from its campus at 1100 Balsam Ave. just off Broadway in west Boulder to its newer Foothills campus is part of a 10-year, $110 million expansion.

Exploring & expressing grief

Support groups and events, as well as creative therapies and professional counseling, are all ways in which Pathways supports individuals dealing with grief and loss.

The second phase of the expansion is to centralize all outpatient services and business operations, which will move from the hospital’s Mapleton Center for Rehabilitation campus at 311 Mapleton Ave. to the Broadway campus. That part of the expansion is expected to cost about $15 million and take about two years to complete.

In the third phase, the 14-acre Mapleton campus will be sold, hopefully by October, Gehant said. If the Mapleton campus sells before planned remodeling is complete at 1100 Balsam Ave., the hospital may perform a two-year sale and lease-back plan, Gehant said.

The hospital is making “huge investments” in imaging and cardiology equipment at the Foothills campus as part of the expansion, Gehant said. New imaging and cardiology equipment includes new CT (computed tomography) and MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) scanners and four new, specialized laboratories. The hospital plans to spend $6 million to $7 million to outfit the new labs, which include two cardiac catheterization labs and an electrophysiology lab to help diagnose and treat heart patients and a radiographic interventional suite with equipment used to treat vessels in patients’ extremities, Gehant said.

The hospital expansion is being funded through a hospital bond sale as well as through a $12 million capital fundraising campaign.
