FreeWave inks deal with Mexican utility

BOULDER – FreeWave Technologies Inc. has been chosen by an electric company in Mexico to provide the wireless data radio applications that will monitor the country’s electricity networks.

Financial terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Boulder-based FreeWave Technologies said the project includes FreeWave providing wireless data radio applications to monitor power consumption and substations as well as to control and monitor networks for Comision Federal de Electricidad, the electric company.

CFE is using three styles of FreeWave’s wireless data radios in nine of its 16 divisions around Mexico, according to a prepared statement.

Comision Federal de Electricidad, or CFE, has about 100,000 employees who serve 100 million customers.

FreeWave makes radios for the military and for the oil and gas, utilities, security, recreation and agriculture industries.
