Traveling WW I exhibition rolls onto CSU campus Tuesday

FORT COLLINS – A custom 18-wheel truck has been
transformed into traveling World War I exhibition and will make the 10th stop
of a planned 75-city tour in Fort Collins on Aug. 30.

The “Honoring Our History Tour” was put
together by Waddell & Reed, one of the country’s oldest mutual fund and
financial planning companies, in partnership with Ivy Funds and the National
World War I Museum. The year-long tour kicked off in July to visit Waddell
& Reed cities around the nation, in celebration of the company’s 75th
anniversary. The firm was founded by two veterans of what was then known as the
Great War, Chauncey Waddell and Cameron Reed, in 1937.

The unique traveling exhibition offers an interactive
experience featuring 46 WWI artifacts, such as weapons, uniforms, posters and
flags. Visitors will experience the tight conditions of trench warfare, see the
relatively primitive tools, weapons, equipment and uniforms, amid sounds and
sights of war 100 years ago.

The exhibition is free and open to the public from 10
a.m. to 4 p.m. on the Colorado State University campus, at the corner of
College Avenue and Lake Street across from the University Center for the Arts,
near the flower gardens.

By traveling to 75 cities in nearly every state, Waddell
& Reed hopes to raise $500,000 in donations over the course of the year.
Funds raised at each stop will be divided equally between the hosting venue –
in this case, CSU – and the National World War I Museum in Kansas City, Mo.

This exhibition will also be at Wings Over the Rockies in
Denver, Sept. 8-10.
