Secretary of State launches online filing system with ‘fee holiday’

DENVER – For the next three months, businesses based outside of Colorado
that want to do business in the state will enjoy a streamlined
application process with a bargain price tag.

Secretary of State Scott Gessler has announced that the fee to file a
Foreign Entity Authority statement will temporarily drop from $125 to $1
from Sept. 1 to Dec. 1. Gessler said the “fee holiday” is meant to call
attention to the state’s recently completed online filing option.

Until the system modernization, out-of-state businesses were required to
file paper forms with the secretary’s office, which typically took
three to five days to process. The online upgrade was finally completed
in June.

“Coming into office, I heard loud and clear from many business leaders
that completing this project was priority number one,” Gessler said. “We
put our heads down and dedicated the necessary resources to modernize
this filing option, and I’m proud to say that we delivered.”

The Secretary of State’s office is almost exclusively funded through
business filing fees, but Gessler said his office can absorb the
temporary reduction in one fee.

“My aim with this initiative is to send a message that Colorado is
making bold strides to create a more-user friendly, intuitive system
that saves our customers time and money, while keeping our fees among
the lowest in the country,” Gessler said.
