December tax collections rise by 3.2 percent

FORT COLLINS – Total sales and use tax collections in Fort Collins rose
by 3.2 percent in December, according to a report by the city’s sales
tax division.

Sales tax collections in December are based on retail sales in
November, before the Christmas holiday season. Use tax collections are
for December.

The report showed net taxable retail sales in November totaled $174.1
million compared to $173.8 million in 2008, a 0.1 percent increase
month-over-month. Actual sales tax collections were down by 0.4 percent
in December compared to December 2008.

Use tax receipts in December totaled $798,931. Car tax receipts were up
41.4 percent…
