Foreclosures slow in October

For the first time in seven months, the number of local foreclosures didn’t set a new monthly record.

But October’s numbers were still high.

Boulder and Broomfield counties reported 131 new foreclosure filings in October 2009, down from the month’s all-time record-high of 142 filings in October 2007.

Local foreclosures are still at yearly highs. Filings through Oct. 31, 2009 totaled 1,473 – 35.1 percent higher than the same period a year ago.

Foreclosures typically are filed after borrowers are 75 to 90 days late on their mortgage payments. Those homes haven’t necessarily been repossessed yet, but the figures are a good indication of…
