Boulder opts against adjusting tipped-wage offset

BOULDER — Boulder City Council decided last week not to increase minimum-wage guidelines for tipped workers.

Officials had spent a year mulling an increase to tipped-wage offsets that would have the effect of allowing restaurants and other hospitality to pay servers and workers less than the city’s minimum wage.

Some restaurant owners and local business groups had lobbied for increased offsets, arguing that they would have allowed restaurants to remain viable during a period of skyrocketing costs. Labor organizations protested any measure that would result in lower wages for workers.
