Family celebrates 40 years of teeing it up at Haystack

NIWOT – On July 2, 1966, Haystack Mountain Golf Course opened for play. That day about 50 golfers paid $1 each to play the nine-hole course. Champagne was served. The day after, owner Lois Ebel remembers, was slower. “The girls kept looking, but no golfers came.”

They lowered the price to 75 cents a round, and persevered. Business grew.
