Denver entrepreneur buys NCBR’s Poudre Magazine

FORT COLLINS – Poudre Magazine has a new owner.

Bo Hamrick, CEO of Denver-based Grant Street Media LLC, bought the lifestyle and outdoors magazine, published since its inception by Northern Colorado Business Report Inc. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Poudre began as a twice-a-year publication in 2001 but soon expanded to three times a year. The four-color, glossy magazine is distributed at more than 500 locations throughout Larimer and Weld counties, including hotels, visitors centers, restaurants and retail establishments.

Sale of Poudre Magazine was brokered by John Smith of Business Marketers in Fort Collins.

“We found a very capable buyer for Poudre Magazine, someone who will take this publication to new heights,´ said Northern Colorado Business Report co-publisher Christopher Wood. “Bo has some great ideas for content and solidifying Poudre’s position as the premier lifestyle and outdoors magazine in Northern Colorado. He’s a very capable entrepreneur who will give it the attention it deserves.”

Hamrick said he looked forward to taking the Poudre helm and resuming its publication to serve Northern Colorado readers.

“We are extremely pleased to acquire Poudre Magazine,” Hamrick said. “It is a recognized, quality brand that has served the region’s advertisers and readers very well. We want to carry on that tradition and build on it.”

Hamrick appointed Karen Henry as the new editor-in-chief of the magazine. A native Coloradan and Colorado State University alumna, she returns to the area after a successful stint editing a university magazine in Michigan

“This is truly a homecoming for me,” Henry said. “I love Northern Colorado and am thrilled to be joining Poudre Magazine in this capacity. It’s an honor to continue putting out this publication that has served the region so well for the past five years.”

Poudre Magazine includes a variety of sections focusing on the arts, entertainment, fashion, outdoors, home décor, night life, dining and shopping. In addition, the magazine publishes comprehensive directories of restaurants, lodging facilities and various retail sectors.

Jeff Nuttall, Business Report co-publisher, said that whereas the Business Report is focused on the business-to-business market, Poudre is very much a consumer-oriented publication.

“We want to focus on our greatest strength, which is B2B publishing,” Nuttall said. “We publish dozens of B2B titles, including our business journals and our industry directories. In addition, all of our events are business-oriented. It makes sense to turn Poudre over to a publisher who will grow it as a consumer publication. We fully expect Poudre to thrive under Bo’s direction.”
