Open space study’s tax numbers challenged
BOULDER — A study by Boulder Tomorrow looking at the size of open space acquisitions by both Boulder and Boulder County and attempting to calculate the loss of potential taxes on that land if it could be developed is being challenged by open space officials.
The study, researched by a University of Colorado graduate student, concludes the city of Boulder lost about $15 million in 2003 in potential taxes. The study was presented to local media, including The Boulder County Business Report.
Open space officials have challenged how the study calculated the land values and whether correct tax assessment rates were used.
