Fence company started in college 30 years ago

FORT COLLINS — Attending classes, studying for exams and working on term papers are activities most college students experience. But Walt Peeples — while doing the ordinary college rituals — was doing something different. He found time to create his own company.

Peeples, president of Armadillo Construction, began the company in his dorm room in 1973 at Texas A & M University.

“I had built fences out of my college dorm room,” Peeples said. ” I did that to make money while I was in college.”

Peeples, who was majoring in forestry, never had formal training on how to make fences.
