Country General liquidates

Local Country General stores begin liquidation sales today as part of parent company Quality Stores Inc.’s restructuring plan under bankruptcy protection. The Michigan-based company is closing 89 stores, primarily west of the Mississippi, due to an involuntary bankruptcy filed by shareholders on October 20. Quality Stores has been in business since 1935 selling agricultural products, tools and automotive accessories under the names County General, CT Farm & Country and Quality Farm & County. While 177 stores east of the Mississippi will remain open, the company is closing stores in six states including 17 in Colorado and four in Wyoming. Regionally Quality Stores are located in Fort Collins, Loveland, Greeley, Longmont and Cheyenne. Company officials said they expect to sell more than $37 million of inventory during the liquidation sales.
