Volt powers up with new temp office

FORT COLLINS – Volt Services Group, the Orange, Calif.-based temporary worker provider, is expanding its presence in Northern Colorado by opening a Fort Collins office.The firm already has a Loveland location.
“Volt was chosen as a primary vendor for temporary help at Hewlett-Packard Co.,´ said Bill Blatnik, area manager for Volt. “We do business with Hewlett-Packard in other markets, such as Atlanta, Spokane [Wash.] and Colorado Springs.”
The contract means Volt will be a main supplier of clerical, manufacturing and high-level technical personnel to Hewlett-Packard in Northern Colorado.
The new office, located in 2,000 square feet on the top floor of 300 E. Horsetooth Road, also will serve as a way to expand Volt’s client base with other Fort Collins, Greeley and Loveland businesses.
Blatnik said he anticipates that 800 employees will be placed out of the new office during the next 18 months.
Betty Becker, executive vice president of On Call Employment Services, a StaffMark Company, said Volt’s arrival in Fort Collins will further fragment an already competitive industry.
“Any time a new player comes into the market, each of us who has been here has to be prepared for those who use us to say ‘Ah, here’s someone new,'” she said. “I have to give added value wherever I can to show my customers that they have reason to stay with me.
“The pie will be sliced a little differently,” she added.
Becker noted that national temporary providers such as Volt and Manpower Temporary Services have sweeping contracts with large companies such as Hewlett-Packard.
“Those companies have primary consideration,” she said.
At the same time, some autonomy is granted to each corporate site, and they also can contract with other firms.
Volt Services Group, part of the New York-based Volt Information Sciences, has 160 offices nationwide and anticipates $1 billion in revenues this year.
