McLane’s new distribution center near DIA won’t affect operations in Longmont

DENVER — Texas-based McLane Foodservice Inc., a supplier to major restaurant chains, has acquired 20 acres in the 250-acre Nexus at DIA business center in Commerce City, where it plans to build a distribution center and bring 240 jobs to the area. The 250,000-square-foot center will be northwest of the intersection of Peña Boulevard and Tower Road.

McLane, through its McLane Western division, has been operating a 300,000-square-foot distribution center in the Weld County portion of Longmont since 1991. McLane Western employs more than 400 drivers, distribution-center workers and administrative staff. They serve more than 2,000 convenience stores, mass merchants and drug stores in a six-state area that includes Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, Nebraska, Kansas and South Dakota.

The new foodservice distribution center in Commerce City will not impact operations in Longmont, said McLane spokesman Tom Sicola, who explained that McLane Western distributes grocery items to clients, while the foodservice center supplies major restaurant chains.

McLane Foodservice and McLane Western are divisions of The McLane Co. Inc., headquartered in Texas. McLane is a wholly owned unit of Berkshire Hathaway Inc. (NYSE: BRK) and employs more than 20,000 people.

Nexus at DIA is a joint development between Schuck Communities and C H Thompson Co. LLC. The development has a number of other distribution and airport-related companies in various stages of contracting at the site.
