Colorado bankruptcy filings increase 20% in January

DENVER — Colorado bankruptcy filings increased 20% in January, but with greater increases reported in the Boulder Valley and Northern Colorado
The state recorded 563 bankruptcy filings during the month, compared with 469 for the same period a year ago. Individual filings totaled 553, up from 459 in January 2024. Business filings totaled 10, the same as the prior year.
That’s according to a BizWest analysis of U.S. Bankruptcy Court data. Numbers cited include all new filings, including open, closed and dismissed cases.

January filings increased in Boulder, Broomfield, Larimer and Weld counties.
- Boulder County recorded 20 bankruptcy filings in January, up 25% from 16 the prior year. Boulder County recorded 15 bankruptcy filings in December 2024.
- The City and County of Broomfield recorded 13 bankruptcy filings in January, up 117% from six the prior year. Broomfield recorded seven bankruptcy filings in December 2024.
- Larimer County filings totaled 40 in January, up 90% from 21 the prior year. Larimer recorded 26 bankruptcy filings in December 2024.
- Weld County bankruptcy filings totaled 51 in January, up 28% from 40 a year ago. Weld recorded 50 bankruptcy filings in December 2024.
January filings included:
- Botes Santa Cruz Corp. of Greeley, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection Jan. 6, listing assets of $518,815 and liabilities of $1,158,014. Case No. 25-10061-TBM, U.S. Bankruptcy Court, Denver.
- ZDN Inc. of Firestone, doing business as Blackjack Pizza, which filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy Jan. 10, listing assets of zero to $50,000 and liabilities of $100,001 to $500,000. Case No. 25-1-129-KHT, U.S. Bankruptcy Court, Denver.
