Vail Resorts downplays concerns over ‘Park City’ trademark application
Vail Resorts officials say some Park City, Utah business owners’ concerns over the company’s pending trademark application for the name of the city are unfounded.
The Park Record reports that Vail Resorts — the Broomfield-based operator of several ski areas, including Park City Mountain Resort — has an application pending seeking to trademark the words “Park City” in relation to a skiing and snowboarding operation. That has some businesses that use the town’s name in their own brands and also provide services like heli skiing to worry that their brands could be in danger.
But a Vail spokeswoman told the paper that the trademark application “is meant to guard against another mountain resort operating with a similar name” and that the company would not try to prevent other businesses in town from using the town name.
