Aims employee tests positive for COVID-19, 4 campuses affected

GREELEY — An Aims Community College employee who had visited all four Aims campuses in Northern Colorado has tested positive for COVID-19.
Aims is already operating its educational programs using remote learning, and many employees had already begun working from home. However, the potential exposure of other employees or students could have occurred between March 9 and March 13, when the employee visited the school’s campuses.

The affected employee has received treatment from a medical professional and is resting at home, Aims public information officer Timothy Ullmann told BizWest. Ullmann also said that the employee is among several who are not assigned to one campus and work among all locations for the community college.
Aims is cooperating with Weld County Public Health, and Aims human resources and safety and security departments are actively investigating further details, including the risk of exposure, the college said in a notice to the public.
The message to students and employees distributed today said, in part, that college staff is trying to contact individuals who may have had contact with the employee and asking them to stay home for 14 days as recommended by Centers for Disease Control guidelines. Areas where the employee is known to have visited are being cleaned and sanitized.
“We are continuously monitoring this evolving situation and will take additional actions to protect the health and safety of our Aims community as necessary. If you think you have symptoms related to the COVID-19, please contact your health-care provider for medical assistance,” the college said in its notice to the public. The college also asked individuals experiencing symptoms to contact Jenell Wild in human resources at jenell.wild@aims.edu.
Aims had already cancelled its spring commencement ceremony and celebration activities that had been scheduled for the week leading up to commencement.
