UCHealth launches cost estimator tool

AURORA — UCHealth has launched an online portal and mobile application that provides patients with individualized, insurance plan-specific price estimates.

In Northern Colorado and Boulder Valley, UCHealth operates Longs Peak Hospital in Longmont, Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins, Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland, UCHealth Medical Group in Loveland and Broomfield Hospital. It also will open a new hospital in Greeley in 2019.

With the new price estimation tool, UCHealth can connect with patients’ insurance plans, confirm insurance information, and determine how much of their deductible and out-of-pocket maximum the patients have already met, according to a UCHealth news release.

“UCHealth is focused on providing an excellent experience for our patients, and this includes increasing transparency in the insurance and billing process,” UCHealth CEO Elizabeth Concordia said in a prepared statement. “This innovative service helps patients understand and plan for their out-of-pocket expenses for health care.”

The program allows patients to compare costs across multiple UCHealth locations for services such as  MRIs, CT scans, deliveries and orthopedic surgeries, the release said.

“This estimate tool gives patients the power to make informed health care choices, and it also can help guide patients as they select an insurance plan that’s right for them,” UCHealth chief financial officer Dan Rieber said in a statement.
