Western Sugar fined $2 million for pollution violations
FORT MORGAN — Western Sugar Cooperative has been ordered to pay $2 million as a result of an air and water pollution finding.
KUSA-TV has reported that the state Department of Public Health and Environment has reached an agreement with the cooperative to address odor and other concerns at the Fort Morgan sugar plant.
9News previously reported that residents of Fort Morgan complained that the sugar plant smelled “like dog poop.”

The health department said in a press release that the plant violated regulatory limits on odor and also violated water quality standards.
Western Sugar, in addition to the fine, agreed to remedy practices that resulted in the violations.
