New Belgium, Sphero named ‘best places to work for millennials’
A Fort Collins-based brewery and a Boulder-based maker of robotic toys have been listed among the nation’s best places to work for people in the “millennial” generation, according to a study conducted by an organization whose mission is to help businesses relate to millennials.
New Belgium Brewery and Orbotix Inc., doing business as Sphero, made the 2015 list, compiled by the Austin, Texas-based Center for Generational Kinetics to identify companies that excel at recruiting, developing and retaining top performers in the millennial generation, now the largest workforce in the nation.
New Belgium makes Fat Tire Amber Ale and a host of Belgian-inspired beers. Sphero makes the Sphero mobile-device-controlled robotic ball, a cylinder-shaped robot named Ollie and the yet-to-be-released BB-8 based on a droid in the upcoming “Star Wars” film to be released in December.
“Millennials” are generally considered to be those born between 1980 and the early 2000s, as opposed to “Generation X,” born between 1965 and 1979, and “baby boomers” between 1946 and 1964.

To find the best places to work for millennials, the center partnered with the research firm Best Companies Group, which manages more than 50 “Best Places to Work” programs around the globe. BCG analyzed data from more than 4,000 U.S. organizations that participated in BCG’s various programs. BCG included policy and benefit offerings from employer questionnaires, as well as employee engagement data.
