UCAR’s president plans to step down

BOULDER – The longtime president of the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research will step down at the end of 2011.

Richard Anthes has been the president of Boulder-based UCAR since 1988. UCAR is a nonprofit consortium of universities that operates the National Center for Atmospheric Research, and together the two bodies employ more than 1,500 people and have an annual budget of approximately $210 million.

Anthes is UCAR’s fifth and longest-serving president. A search for his successor will begin immediately in order to have a new president in place by the start of next year, the press release announcing Anthes’ pending departure said.

Anthes will remain at UCAR for three years as part of a phased retirement, the release said.
