Unemployment rate holding steady

DENVER – Local and state unemployment rates for May stayed relatively steady with a 0.2 percent decrease in Boulder County and no change for Broomfield County.

In Boulder County, 10,075 people are unemployed, representing 5.8 percent, compared to 10,370 unemployed people, or 6 percent, last month. And in Broomfield, 2,023 people are unemployed, or 6.8 percent, compared to 2,044 people, or 6.8 percent, last month, according to a report released Friday by the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment.

A year ago, Boulder and Broomfield counties had unemployment rates of 6.8 percent and 7.6 percent respectively.

Statewide, 204,264 people are unemployed compared to 208,578 last month or 221,541 a year ago.

The above figures are not seasonally adjusted.

Colorado’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained steady at 8 percent, down 0.2 percentage points from a year ago.

All figures are better than the national jobless rate of 9.7 percent, down 0.2 percentage points from last month but up 0.3 percent from a year ago.
