Colo. unemployment rate rises slightly

The unemployment rate in Colorado increased one-tenth of 1 percent in June, rising to 8.2 percent, the state said Friday.

The increase was caused by a rise in the number of people actively participating in the labor force without a corresponding increase in the number of people reporting their status as employed.

Nonfarm payroll jobs decreased 6,900 from May to June for a total of 2,284,400 jobs, according to the state’s survey of business establishments. Private-sector payroll jobs declined 5,200 and government decreased 1,700.
The largest month-to-month private-sector job gains were in information. The largest declines were in manufacturing, construction, and education and health services.
Year-over-year, the unemployment rate is down two-tenths of 1 percent from 8.4 percent in June 2011.
